Croft Vintage 1955

Croft Vintage 1955

Ominously the cork showed signs of leakage and the liquid level was a good inch below the neck of the bottle. The appearance was of a murky medium brown colour with a tinge of amber. The nose was strongly alcoholic with hints of stewed pears and almonds. On tasting one experienced a sweet and rich mouthful predominantly of plum and prune fruit flavours. There was complexity but not a great deal of body. Sadly the overall effect was spoiled by oily aldehyde flavours indicating that aerobic spoilage had occured, which wasn't such a surprise considering the state of the bottle and the nose.
