Warre's Vintage 1977
Deep brownish red colour with a rich nose of stewed plums. This was rich, sweet and complex combining well balanced plummy fruit and almond flavours.
I thought it was time to share my research into port wine with the world. It has been hardwork but someone had to do it.

Clear deep reddish brown colour with a rich and slightly nutty nose. The taste was smooth and complex yet gentle. One was given the suggestion of sweet hints of plums combined with butterscotch.

Dark red colour with a tinge of amber. The nose was complex and fruity with hints of cinammon like spices. The taste was sweet and full bodied but also tired and oxidised. This was definitely not a bottle at its best.

Clear reddish amber colour with a gentle fruity nose, which also carried a hint of wood. This was surprisingly dry. Hints of dried fruits and oak were there but the flavours seemed to be supressed by the reduced sweetness.

Croft Vintage 1955
Ominously the cork showed signs of leakage and the liquid level was a good inch below the neck of the bottle. The appearance was of a murky medium brown colour with a tinge of amber. The nose was strongly alcoholic with hints of stewed pears and almonds. On tasting one experienced a sweet and rich mouthful predominantly of plum and prune fruit flavours. There was complexity but not a great deal of body. Sadly the overall effect was spoiled by oily aldehyde flavours indicating that aerobic spoilage had occured, which wasn't such a surprise considering the state of the bottle and the nose.
