Quinta Seara d'Ordens Tawny Reserve
Deep toffee brown colour with just a hint of redness. Old dried fruits and leather on the nose. Lovely complex mouthful of dried fruits and substantial amounts of old oak. Exceptional quality for a reserve as I have tasted ten year olds that don't come up to the level of this port.
I thought it was time to share my research into port wine with the world. It has been hardwork but someone had to do it.

We had the pleasure of enjoying this port during the course of a wonderful day spent at the quinta as the guests of the very hospitable Roquette family. It had a lightly oxidised ruby colour with a light fruity nose. There was a lovely rounded taste being full bodied and fruity whilst edging towards a tawny with hints of dried fruits contributing.

Burmester Tawny?
Burmester Tawny?
I put in the question mark as we had this in a restaurant and, as I have found out before, you can't always be sure what comes out of the bottle is what it says on the label. I had the impression that this may have been an uncontrolled wine rather than anything put out under the Burmester label. It had a deep brown colour and a sweet nutty nose. The taste was rich, sweet, woody and warming and therefore very reminiscent of previous restaurant ports I had experienced.

Clear reddish brown with an intense nutty nose. This port was markedly fruity adding a pluminess to the usual rich dried fruit flavours. There was also a moderate contribution from the wood ageing.

Good deep ruby colour with a nose of sweet fruit. There was a satisfying rich and full mouthful having good fruit flavours matched with depth. A little bit of residual harshness so it will be interesting to see what it is like in another 4 or 5 years time.

Deep purplish ruby colour with a slight grapey nose. This was grapey and sweet but also somewhat harsh and tannic. Perhaps it would have benefitted from a bit longer ageing.

Strong ruby red colour with a soft nose carrying a hint of rich fruitiness. There was a rich and full fruity taste, which was not particularly grapey though. Overall the impression was of a smooth and well balanced port.
